Hello world!

16 08 2008

In less than three weeks, my husband will deploy overseas with his Army unit. The interesting part about his deployment is that I don’t know when he’s actually leaving or where’s he’s going at this point. This is the greatest challenge facing us right now. I read that writing in a journal is therapeutic while your husband is deployed. I decided that I’d share my journal with the world in The Real Army Wife’s Blog. When I began to mentally prepare myself for my husband’s deployment, I searched all over the web for a blog that really captured the emotions of a soldier’s wife. I wanted to know what’s going on in a wife’s mind before, during, and after a deployment. My web search yielded some interesting results:

- lots of Army Wives Blogs about the show on Lifetime;

- lots of army wives of faith blogs

- lots of army wives who are now selling books on the web; and

- lots of wives talking about their everyday lives on blogs with the pictures and videos of their family.

I think there was a lot of great information in my search, but I couldn’t find a blog or web site that shared candid emotions that an Army wife is actually go through on a day-to-day basis. After realizing this, I decided to start my own blog. I hope this blog will help me stay strong during my husband’s deployment and I hope it will help other army wives as they prepare for deployment with their loved ones.

I will take a great leap of faith with this choice, but I will blog anonymously. I want to be able to freely express myself about my emotions, the war, the government, and everything that’s going on in my head during this deployment. I want to be candid with you and candid with myself without the fear of affecting my career or my husband’s career. The only person who will know my identity is my husband, and I will share this information with him next week. In this blog, you won’t find pictures of me and my family, but you will find heartfelt stories and you will see photos that are shaping my mind during this deployment. I hope that you will enjoy this yearlong journey and that you will take me as I am–a Real Army Wife.

Thank you for expressing real army wife life. My husband is in the process of enlisting and I have no clue what to expect.
